Just in case you are not familiar with the environmental damage of drilling for natural gas, ( I focus on this particular practice because it is what our area is dealing with and is what has brought many changes)
The Coming Changes
Environmental Changes
We recently removed ash from the broccoli and tomatoes in our vegetable garden and tests indicated levels of arsenic, lead, and barium. We were advised by the Agricultural Extension Agency after faxing these results to him not to eat the vegetables and he said, “In fact, I would not be touching the substance on the vegetables”. We had to scrap our entire vegetable garden this year but, unfortunately we have eaten the vegetables in the past (the black crystals on the plants and vegetables were not as large since the gas well was a little farther away and not the 400 ft from our daughter’s house that this one was).

We keep about 30 head of cattle for the last four years and have lost 11 head during that time and we believe it is due to run off of pollutants from the gas well drilled above our pond. We have had our pond tested and have levels of lead, arsenic and barium. We have spent hundreds of dollars testing our environment because we want to know if it’s safe for our five grandchildren to be on the land, fish from our ponds and eat the bass and catfish, and consume our fruits and vegetables. Obviously, it is not safe. Below are pictures of what is left on our land and the O and G Co only covered the contaminants by crusher dust in the hope that we wouldn't notice it. By the way, it is above another pond and has since then run into our pond. Fortunately we had the forsight to do a pre-test of this pont and will soon do a post test. We are keeping our cattle off of this piece of land, though, because we don't want to lose more. We have lost the use of this 17 acres though that is fenced separately from our main pasture.

We are also in a watershed area to the Greenwood water supply. We do have Milltown-Washburn Water which comes from the new Booneville lake which is also surrounded by wells being drilled as we speak. If it’s killing the cattle, what is it doing to us. Even though public water supplies have filtering systems, we know this does not preclude some elements from being contaminants.

I have attached other pictures of the black crystals from the burn off lying on our plants and on our 4-hear old grandchild's pool toys.

Hello.

I understand that you are interested in hearing about the "property rights" abuses of gas companies.

We have a home in Booneville AR and also in FL. When we arrived at our AR home last year we found that instead of a 20' small old road running down the side of our property there were bull dozers that had cut a 60' wide entrance at the top of the 1000 ' road and had made a much wider road. They also came across the bottom of our property where a small road had been rerocked and made ready for the big rigs. When we started asking a lot of questions and spending hours with a land -man who said he represented the gas company, we saw a lot of problems. The land- man was ready to have a check cut for damages to the man who lives several properties away and has nothing to do with these roads. When we told him that was wrong, he said the neighbor, on whose land the well was being dug, and who had not wanted their roads to go through his property, had directed him to pay this distant neighbor.

After several visits from the land man and evidence that he had no idea who owned the land upon which these roads were on, we had more questions for him. We had to leave AR before anything was settled. We ended up not getting any money and now they have placed a dump truck load of dirt in the middle of the entrance to our lower road and redirected their roads through the neighbors pastures.

It seems inconceivable to us that these companies can come on land and not even know to whom it belongs. They don't pay for damages, the gates are left open and the roads that were once private are now open to anyone who feels like trespassing.

I know that this story is not very exciting compared to the real horror stories in the area, but to us it was a complete invasion of privacy and unbelievable incompetance on the part of this "professional land man " with whom the gas companies do business.

In the Communist countries people have more property rights than in the United States. That is totally wrong. It is clear to see that the Commission that has given these rights away is bought and paid for by big oil and gas companies. A sad commentary on being an American.
Sincerely,

WM
Booneville, AR
These are just two of the many stories and are typical of what we are hearing. For a more detailed look at what is happening in the state of Arkansas, go to http://www.arcare.info
This is their story, too, and they and their families are affected as are all living things.  The Eagle family has lived in this area for many, many years. They call it home, just as we call this area home.  When I first came here, I would go to the River and sit on winter mornings. One morning, I counted 37 Eagles in the Trees on the cliff touching the River.  Now I am honored just to see two. Last year, two adult Eagles raised their family in a Pine Tree around the lake.  These remarkable photos of the adult female and male feeding their children, were taken by a young woman named Jessica Hall.

Both the female and male Eagle take equal responsibility for raising their babies.  They look and act alike, except the female may be somewhat larger. They hunt and build the nest together, and bond for life.  They are wonderful parents and considered by the Native American as the most Sacred.

Recently, they have been taken off the endangered species list. It is my belief that the reason this was done was so that the gas and oil companies could drill where ever they wanted without the Endangered Species Act hindering them.
The Peoples Story
My name is BP(Name withheld for privacy- ed.) and I am currently in charge of the address that you have written to. I shall be more than proud to forward your letter and some more nice folks that are with us. The truth is, unfortunately, that virtually every drill site destroys 4 to 5 acres of land, outright, and each contains an industrial waste dump full of chemicals and trash. As far as watching and monitoring, don't expect much help from your state government, or your politicians. You don't butter their bread. As far as laws, there are none to be had in the Natural State, the Land of Opportunity, as far as the "property owner" is concerned. The production companies own your state, lock, stock and barrel. If you doubt my word, please consult your local sheriff, prosecuting attorney or attorney general of Arkansas. Then try Teresa Marks, Director, ADEQ, or Larry Bengal, of AOGC. The fact is you don't own anything, you are merely allowed the privelege of paying taxes to the Natural state, until someone wants to destroy your property, taking it without permission or agreement, leaving it as they like, and letting you deal with what they leave, industrial waste dump and all. And, continue to pay state taxes on what they take.

If I paint a bleak picture for you, take heart it only gets better, my local sherriff's Chief Deputy sent Lieutenant Alvy Joe Holland to my house to threaten me with a "cuffing and stuffing" should I so much as speak to anyone in my pastures. When I asked how I would know if they actually had a right to be here, I was told that if they didn't have they right to be there, they wouldn't be in my fields. Duh. I made him repeat that one, three times. And, then, the poor, young, drunken roughneck that called me off of my porch in the middle of the night, only to shove a loaded pistol in my belly and tell me that his tool pusher had told him to shoot my ass off if I came down to the location, as he plyed him with liquor. When the production company that destroyed my hay meadow, heard this story, their line was that this was impossible since they had a policy of no firearms on their locations. After some back and forth bickering, I simply informed them that I did not walk down to that location alone, and I had a witness to that nights events. And, he would be proud to testify. That ended that. But, I guess the best one,  th productions group, had the sheriff come out and talk to me. They were trying to get a 300 foot injunction placed against me and the industrial waste dump they created at the well-site. I only asked him if I was to live in a refrigerator box, since my home lies within that circumference. Wes Kendrick was a very sensible sheriff and saw through that, thankfully. But, nothing would surprise me since he retired.

So, take heart, and lots of photos, because your environment is about to change. Because this IS the Natural State, the Land of Opportunity for yankee carpetbaggers who trash our state and the native Sons of our own La Petite Roche who aid and abet them in the wanton rape and destruction of our environment. All for profit. Thieves and Liars, every one. The only way to beat the "good old boy network" in place, is to oust them from office.
Hope that I have been of assistance, please don't hesitate to call on me.
